Why You Should Be Aware of Changes and Problems

As one of the world's largest decentralized networks, Helium is always going through changes and improvements aimed at fixing long standing issues and securing the future of the network. As a result of such innovation, issues are bound to arise from time to time. Using the resources listed here, you can ensure you're up to date on any drastic changes or current issues that might affect your miners. If you suddenly see your miner hasn't had activity in 24 hours but you've already received a notification about a known issue with the network, it can save a lot of stress and unnecessary troubleshooting!

Helium Status Page

The Helium Status Page is a great resource for an at-a-glance look at the current health of the network. This site will tell you if there are any ongoing issues with PoC, packet transfer, onboarding, and more.

Another useful feature of this page is that you can be automatically notified of any downtime by clicking the Subscribe to Updates button and entering an email, Slack information, Twitter information, and more to receive notifications when an issue starts and ends.

Helium Engineering Blog

For detailed explanations of the latest changes to the Helium network, the Helium Engineering Blog is a great resource. Nova Labs engineers working on the network and its components write these blogs to better help the community understand what changes are happening, why the changes are made, and what the goal is behind the changes.

HeliumAnalytics Network Trend Dashboard

An excellent tool for staying up to date with current trends of the Helium network related to rewards distribution, HNT being minted, PoC activity, number of hotspots added and online, and more - HeliumAnalytics is an invaluable resource for hotspot owners.

For a detailed explanation on what HeliumAnalytics has to offer, here are a few words from the creator of the site (emphasis ours):

"Helium Analytics aims to provide high level global information on the data contributing to Proof of Coverage on the Helium network. With this data users can compare statistics on their own hotspots to those around the around the world in order to identify potential issues with their set up as well as the network in general.

From a rewards perspective there is a comprehensive dash that looks at the number of HNT minted each day against the target, the number of hotspots participating in PoC and the split of rewards against each element of the network. You can also look at the distribution of rewards across the network every day to identify how good your setup is compared to the rest of the world. This is particularly useful to manage your expectation of earnings and see where there may be opportunity for improvement.

Users can also look at data relating to beaconing and witnessing on a daily basis with information available showing how many beacons and witnesses there have been, how many hotspots participated in each activity along with data about the distribution of these events with respect to hotspots. Again, you can compare your activity with the rest of the network and identify where your hotspot is compared to the rest of the world. It is worth noting that at the time of writing PoC rates are such that a hotspot can be expected to beacon every 3 days so taking a step back and looking at things from a wider perspective is prudent!

To facilitate a wider view, monthly statistics are also available to quickly show trends and and to help understand what is happening on the network over time. Of particular interest is to look at the interactive 3d charts showing reward distribution over time which identify the change in rewards with respect to the rapidly increasing number of hotspots on the network as well as any short term influences such as low rewards minting on a given day."
