Bobber App Hotspot Onboarding

If you are trying to onboard a Hotspot and are receiving a "This Hotspot already has an owner" error, refer to this article on the subject.
 

The Basics

The Bobber app allows users to onboard and add all their Hotspots with ease. In this article, we’ll demonstrate all the ways you can log in, connect wallets, onboard hotspots, view hotspots, and track the health of your Bobcat miners.

Onboard Your Hotspot Without Registering an Account

In the spirit of decentralization, users can onboard their hotspots to the Helium blockchain via the Bobber App without registering. This allows users to remain anonymous by only linking through their decentralized Helium wallet.

  1. At the login screen select Later.

  2. At the Home screen select Link Helium Account.

  3. Link your Helium wallet by selecting Yes, Link The App. The Bobber App will never ask for your seed words and you should never share this information with any maker app.

  4. The Bobber app will now navigate you to your Helium Wallet App where you’ll be able to link to the Bobber App by selecting Yes, Link My Wallet.

  5. Once Linked and returned to the Bobber app Home screen again, select the Plus Icon (+) in the top left corner of the app to onboard a Hotspot.

  6. Select Bobcat Miner 300 or Bobber 500, depending on the Hotspot you would like to onboard.
  7. Follow the prompts to onboard your Hotspots the same way you have before in the old Helium app

Pros and Cons of Onboarding Hotspots Without a Bobber App Account

Pros:

  1. You can link and view hotspots in your Helium wallet anonymously

  2. You can add new hotspots to the Helium blockchain anonymously

  3. You never have to register an account with the Bobber App while still being able to use many of the app’s basic features

Cons:

  1. You won't be able to access the Bobber App's Web Dashboard

  2. You won't be able to utilize the remote Hotspot diagnostic tools

  3. If you have multiple wallets with Hotspots in each of them, you’ll need to unlink your current wallet from the Bobber App, switch the wallet in the Helium Wallet app, then link your new wallet to the Bobber App to see its Hotspot(s)

Onboard Your Hotspot by Registering an Account in the Bobber App

Get the most out of your Bobcat hotspots by registering an account in the Bobber App. If you register an account with the Bobber app, you’ll be able to utilize the best features like the Web Dashboard, remote diagnostics, and stored Hotspots across multiple wallets.

  1. At the login screen select the Register button.

  2. On the Register page, fill in your Email then select Send Code, You’ll then be prompted with a Verify Captcha, type in the captcha text and select Confirm. (This will trigger a confirmation code to be sent to your Email Inbox. Make sure to check your spam folder.)

  3. Retrieve the Verification Code from your email and paste the code into the verification code text box on the registration page.

  4. Fill in a strong Password that you will not forget. Check the box to agree to the Privacy Policy & Terms and Conditions and select the Register button.

  5. If successful you’ll be taken to the Bobber App Home screen where you’ll need to select Link Helium Account to get started.

  6. At the Home screen select Link Helium Account.

  7. Link your Helium wallet by selecting Yes, Link The App. The Bobber App will never ask for your seed words and you should never share this information with any maker app.

  8. The Bobber app will now navigate you to your Helium Wallet App where you’ll be able to link to the Bobber App by selecting Yes, Link My Wallet.

  9. Once Linked and returned to the Bobber app Home screen again, select the Plus Icon (+) in the top left corner of the app to onboard a Hotspot.

  10. Select Bobcat Miner 300 or Bobber 500, depending on the Hotspot you would like to onboard.

  11. Follow the prompts to onboard your Hotspots the same way you have before in the old Helium app

Pros and Cons of Onboarding Hotspots With a Bobber App Account

Pros:

  1. You can link one or all of your Helium wallets one at a time to give you the ability to view all of your Hotspots in one location

  2. You can add new hotspots to the Helium blockchain and have them stored in your registered Bobber App account

  3. You’ll never have to re-add your hotspots or wallets to the app once registered with the Bobber App. If you log out and sign back in, all of your information will instantly be restored

  4. You will be able to see Hotspot status on the Hotspots tab

  5. You will have full access to the Bobber dashboard where you can manage all of your Hotspots and access informative data about the Helium network

  6. You’ll also be able to run remote diagnostics on all of your Bobcat Hotspots to troubleshoot any issues you may have with your miners from anywhere you are

Cons:

  1. You have to register an account and login
